San Remo - Marketable!

Market people are born actors, on stage all the time and if they are Italian, they are heaven for a photographer.  Show an Italian a camera and they immediately go into pose-mode.  These two guys were happy to show off their many charms at San Remo's market.

Les vendeurs sur les marchés sont des acteurs nés, toujours  sur scène et, si en plus ils sont italiens, c'est  un bonheur pour les photographes. Montrez un appareil photo à un italien et  immédiatement il prend la  pose. Ces deux messieurs étaient heureux de montrer leurs nombreux charmes au marché de San Rémo. 

Ne sont-ils pas géniaux! Merci messieurs!

Buddies

The owners of the dog were having lunch sitting outside the Restaurant Beausejour in Gorbio.  The parents of this little girl were having lunch at Chez Paulo across the square.

She wasn't interested in eating - much more fun riding around on her scooter and making a new canine friend.

Isn't Gorbio heaven!

Les propriétaires du chien sont en train de déjeuner au restaurant Le Beauséjour à Gorbio.  Les parents de cette petite fille sont en train de déjeuner au restaurant Chez Paulo de l'autre côté de la place.

Manger ne l'intéressait pas - c'était beaucoup plus amusant de jouer avec sa trottinette et de se faire un nouvel ami canin.

A  Gorbio, c'est le Paradis!  

Restaurant L'Ulivo - Lunch

This was Peter's first course at Restaurant l'Ulivo - a fish dish with oranges. Mine (see smaller photo) was created with chopped raw prawn and green apple - excellent! We both had a really good lobster risotto as our main course. And afterwards, Peter had a lemon pie (of course in Menton!) and I had a Sardinian cheese and honey pastry, made with a pecorino cheese called Seada. (to die for!) All washed down with a good Provence white.

After that we could barely move ... again, thankyou dear Peter!

Ce fut le premier plat de Peter au restaurant l'Ulivo - un plat de poisson avec des oranges. Le mien (voir la petite photo)  était fait de crevettes crues et de pommes vertes hachées - excellent! Nous avions choisi tous les deux un très bon risotto de homard en plat principal. Et ensuite, Peter a  pris une tarte au citron ( à Menton, ça s'impose!) et moi, une pâtisserie appelée Seada, au fromage sarde, le pécorino, et au miel (une tuerie!) le tout arrosé d'un bon Provence blanc.

Après ça,  nous pouvions à peine bouger ... encore, merci cher Peter!

Restaurant L'Ulivo - Sylvano the Chef

Meet Sylvano Gastaldi, the chef at the Sardinian restaurant L'Ulivo, which is tucked away at the end of Place du Cap, Menton.  Super food, some of which we'll see tomorrow. Sylvano was chef for years on the big Cunard liners and said he'd been around the world six times. Glad he's in Menton now as he's a good cook!

The restaurant is housed in a building that is classified as a monument historique in France with its beautiful trompe l'oeil facade.  I'm told the Mayor of Menton is a regular visitor and is a friend of the owner, Pascal.

I was lucky enough to be taken there by my friend Peter from Peter's Paris who came to stay for a couple of nights. Thank you Peter!

Voici Sylvano Gastaldi, le chef du restaurant sarde L'Ulivo, qui est niché au bout de la Place du Cap à Menton. La cuisine y est excellente, comme nous le verrons demain. Silvano a été le chef pendant des années sur les grands paquebots de la Cunard Line et dit qu'il a fait le tour du monde à six reprises. Maintenant, il est heureux à Menton où il montre ses talents de  bon cuisinier!
Le restaurant est situé dans un immeuble classé monument historique de France pour ses beaux  trompe-l'œil. On me dit que le Maire de Menton est un client régulier ainsi qu'un ami du propriétaire, Pascal.
J'ai eu beaucoup de chance d'être invitée là par mon ami Peter de 'Peter's Paris' qui est venu pour passer deux nuits. Merci Peter!

Donkey Day Out

Two donkeys wander down towards the old village in Gorbio. They've escaped from somewhere but doubtless their owner will appear sooner or later to take them home. Meanwhile, the sides of the road are getting a haircut.

Deux ânes vagabonds  descendant vers le vieux village de Gorbio. Ils ont du s'échapper de quelque part mais sans doute quelqu'un va apparaître tôt ou tard pour les ramener chez eux. Pendant ce temps, les côtés de la route bénéficient d'une coupe d'herbe.
