A Menton Christmas - Empathy

Donkeys in the Jardin Bioves. In the smaller photograph, they are being sprayed by a machine. I'm not sure why?

The whole of the Jardin Bioves (in the centre of the town) is given up to a display of enormous painted models depicting French nursery rhymes - with corresponding audio as you walk by.

Note: the rains and the winds continue. 10 families had to be evacuated from high up in Menton, where the hillsides have crashed into their houses. And remember the beautiful pots (see the posting two days ago) about half have been smashed by the violent weather and waves. The skating rink, which you've not yet seen, has also been badly damaged by winds and waves.

  1. What a lovely image. I love donkeys with their sad eyes..

The weather is shocking, isn't it? I keep hoping for a dry spell..

  2. It does seem to be a long spell of wild and wooley weather that you are enduring. Is this normal for the time of year? Or is it more usual to be February?

  4. The forces of nature...those winds sound pretty deadly. The photo, however, is a positive. Children and animals are an irresistible combination. Like the tone of the snapshot!

  5. Quite nice that you switched to B&W here. I suppose the spraying is to free the donkeys from flies and other pests/insects.

I followed the link to the story about the evacuated homes. Terrible! And all the lovely pots that you photographed...

The weather has been dreadful here too and you would have heard on the news about the tiny Coulon-Calavon creek that came right out of its bed and flooded the plains near Cavaillon, east of Avignon... Yuk

  6. PS - I settled happily in front of the telly last night to watch Priscilla Queen of the Desert on Arte and I was in shock. The movie was dubbed in French. Can you imagine these Aussie drag queens and outback rednecks speaking French in Coober Pedy??? What a shocker!

  8. It's a charming photo. Not such a charming story. Nature will do what she does, regardless of us. She doesn't seem to know we're here, and we have to work around her.

  10. A lovely photo!!

Rain continues to fall here day and night since 7 days. The lake-level is getting very high. No damage fortunately!

  11. C'est une magnifique photo, en effet.

L'oeuvre sur mon blog n'est pas celle de Gober, c'est vraiment un vrai sac de litière pour chats posé sur le sol. Je comprends les réactions des commentateurs :-)))

  12. Merry Christmas, Jilly, from your old friend, Annie in Little Rock. And Happy New Year, too. I'll hope for your bad weather to pass and peaceful days to reign again.

  15. Oh dear! I think cycles of hazards must be the price we pay for the most beautiful patches of geography. I hope your home will be safe.
