Summertime in Menton - La Foule

La Foule = crowds. Crowded beaches. That's Menton in July and August - at least on the public beaches, one of which you see here. You can spread out a little more on the private beaches in Garavan.

On the left you can see the lifeguard sitting in his tower and in the foreground, left, one of the beach showers. In the distance, again left, you see part of the Old Town. Further away - Italy.

  1. Very colorful crowded beach, altho I enjoy a crowded beach in summer, watching the kids have a great time, the people are generally happy, so the more the merrier. !

  2. I love to walk on beaches...but not in the summer. Not a sun worshiper, but love beaches when it's stormy weather! Still, most of my family would enjoy diving into your lovely photo.

  4. The umbrellas are indeed colourful! Isn't it difficult for the lifeguard to see over the umbrellas and sunbathers?

  12. I went to Coney Island beach earlier this week with my out-of-town guests. And what's most interesting about the beaches in NYC and the one shown here is the umbrellas. Apparently, big umbrellas are very common in French beaches. There was nary a one in Brooklyn.

Did the beach goers bring their own umbrellas OR are those available for rent at the beach front?

  13. Ming, so far as I know, people bring their own umbrellas. This is a public beach, after all and not any permanent vendors that I know of. I could be wrong tho - will try and note another time or ask someone. I've never seen as many umbrellas as this year tho, so think perhaps it's a reasonably new thing. Perhaps I didn't notice when I wasn't taking photographs. That's possible. Taking pics makes you notice things, doesn't it?
