Slumbering vine

A simple gateway to an apartment on the walking street of Menton. I liked the autumnal/winter feel of it with the grape vine and its fallen leaves. One of the things I loved when I lived in a colder climate was autumn and walking with the dogs through the fall of leaves. Not that I'm complaining...

  1. Does it not get very cold there in Menton? The picture reminds me of late summer.

Thanks too for visiting my blog and commenting on Mack.

  2. Well spotted, Abraham! In fact I took this photograph in late October - which probably looks like late summer to you as of course it's warmer here and so autumn comes much later.

In fact, tho, no it doesn't get very cold in Menton. Menton is famous for having a micro-climate and is also famous for its oranges and lemons.

I feel the cold, nevertheless, in winter, but my friend who visits from Ohio walks about in shorts and I wear thermal underwear! Just a question of the blood getting thinner after so many years.

  3. This looks like what I see on my daily walks in Mazatlan. Ironwork is so attractive, even on the poorest dwellings. This is lovely!

  4. You'd better not complain or we will come over en masse and whip you silly with this vine ;-)))

    Great stone wall!

  5. Whenever I see one of these tonnelles covered in a vine I imagine myself in white linen sipping a glass of chilled white wine underneath the leaves....
    A lovely evocative photo..

  7. ~tanty~ - well, I felt the same when I was drawn to photograph it, so I can identify with what you say. I think it's perhaps the mystery of what might lie behind the gate. Or perhaps it evokes a subconscious memory in us and we simply don't know why.
