You've Got Mail

When houses are remote (see yesterday's post) - then mail gets delivered to a central grouping of mail boxes.

The wooden signs are for walkers - Gorbio is great walking territory. The red sign on the right says the road is a dead end and is only open to locals whose houses are reached via this road.

This just seems very primitive to me. I guess I have been in this country too long (since I left Japan) and have gotten used to big brother and rigid uniformity. I had no idea what this was until I arrived and then still didn't until I read your comments below the picture. Mailboxes on little skinny pipes would be pushed over by hooligans in no time. I mean we got a bunch of idiots around us and are used to them being alive I guess. So things are made huge, or strong, or impossible to blow up but they still load mail boxes with huge fire crackers called "mortars" and set them off and that explosion blows the mail boxes into the kingdom of scrap metal. To see this simplicity means, to me, that you must be a nation of saints.

  2. Great post! This is a common scene for mailmen around the rural parts of central Florida, with long rows of mailboxes, saving the mailman from driving the dirt roads. The signs add a nice touch to your photo!!

  3. This adds new meaning to the word "post". I loved the photo yesterday of the cloud over Gorbio. When I enlarged it, I felt as though I was actually there. That's good photography Jilly. Are you happy to be home and reunited with Beau?

  4. Very interesting. I had some of the same thoughts as Abe: If those boxes were here, someone would probably try to squash them.

  5. That's funny. I like it.

It must be very nice to escape the crowd of Menton and end up in the countryside just by walking your dog!!
