Place Honoré II
We are standing in Place Honoré II which is the tiny square by the entrance to the Old Town - Porte Saint-Antoine.
Is this a tiny room or more likely a walk-way from one part of the building to another?
This square is actually at the foot of the Basilique Saint Michel and is named for the Prince of Monaco (1597 - 1662) who was responsible for many of Menton's beautiful buildings, including the Basilica itself.

Many of you know that Chuckeroon fell on black ice just before Christmas breaking his shoulder, hip and femur. He's now back home from hospital but confined to one room and is not able to put any weight his bones until the 4th February. Then he'll start six weeks of physiotherapy. Get well soon, Chuckeroon! We miss you.

Nice,nice, as most of what we see from Menton! The nicest thing here is however to see that Chuckeroon is back home; hopefully with some needed patience getting ready for a new Menton visit!
This little corner piece of architecture is very charming. The tiles on its roof gives it a ruffled bonnet look to cap the "room" or "walkway."
I'd love to know what that is.
My guess is that it's a servant's hall, so the help can use a different entrance than the main entrance to a room.
The amazing thing is, it seems they built the room around the downspout!
The Prince of Menton would have been Italian back then wouldn't he? Good architects them Italians.
Conchscooter, you are right, the Princes of Monaco - in other words the Grimaldis - were originally from Genoa. There was never a Prince of Menton though.
I love these small additions devised for mysterious reason in old buildings. They are usually picturesque and charming.
Well it's nice to hear an update on our dear Chuckeroon! Sending good thoughts to him and hope that he is improving each day.

That's what the old town of Menton is made of...charm.
I think none of these shots are a surprise to you and yet you bring them to us so fresh and full of wonder. Thank you. Glad to hear Chuckeroon is back home. May he mend quickly and completely.
