Mortola Superiore - the Cemetery


 The tiny cemetery at Mortola Superiore was built by Sir Thomas Hanbury in 1881. The carved words outside the gates are by Confucious - 'The days and months are passing away, the years do not wait for us.'

On the left you'll find the grave of Count Nico Orengo who was one of the best known modern Italian poets and novelists. H is novels were often set in the local area of Latte, La Mortola and Grimaldi.

Tomorrow, we'll learn about th e beautiful Russian chapel.

A la Mortola supérieure ,le petit cimetière a été construit par Sir Thomas Hanbury en 1881.  Les mots gravés à l'extérieur des portes sont de Confucius - "Les jours et les mois s'éloignent, les années ne nous attendent pas."

Sur la gauche se trouve la tombe du Comte Nico Orengo qui a été l'un des plus célèbres poètes et romanciers italiens modernes. Ses romans se passent souvent  dans la région de Latte, la Mortola, et Grimaldi.


Demain, nous en apprendrons davantage sur la belle chapelle russe.

  1. Another beautiful cemetery! Russian architecture is wonderful wherever it is situated. I'm not sure I am enamoured of Confusious' quote, tho.
