Roquebrune village - 13

Here's a small part of the village as seen from above. You can really see how narrow the streets are and how the houses live cheek by jowl. Some have new roofs, some have those beautiful old tiles.

And if want to know where we are standing, click on THIS LINK - see the flagpole - that's where we are, leaning over the parapet of the Xth century Château. Of course, we'll be taking a full tour of the Château - and that's a treat - but I've more good things to show you in the village first.

  1. For me the tiles are far superior and better looking, but I imagine that they are quite expensive now.

  3. It is interesting that they keep the old tiles while installing sky lights (windows in the ceiling). I like the look yet practically I would have thought replacing the tile would have been the thing to do.

  4. Dear Denton,

people who renovate these village houses are willing to pay a FORTUNE for these old tiles ! There are businesses in the area who specialize in old roof and floor tiles, old sinks, old bath-tubs ... You can be certain that underneath the old tiles the roof is perfectly waterproof.

  5. What a fabulous view of the rooftops.
But i guess living in such cramped quarters would not be as romantic as it looks!!!

  6. This tour you're leading is one of the best I've ever been on, Jilly. I'm loving this place.

  7. I can't even begin to imagine how hard it must be to do repairs to those houses. They are so tightly packed and the streets are so narrow!

Even so, Jilly, I still wish I could live there :)

I seriously think that the French Tourist Board should hire Jilly to run their ad campaign!

  8. I worry about you perching precariously all over the place...literally. Take care.
