An ancient alleyway - stones shiny with the patina of age. Hold on to the rail - it's easy to slip...
The French word for street, of course is 'rue.' Alleyway is 'ruelle.' Isn't that lovely and logical? It also means the 'space between the bed and the wall.'

The last meaning is a little outdated though, it is hardly used anymore while ruelles are aplenty in the old medieval villages.
Beautiful image, I can't imagine if the stones get wet. Now I know a new meaning of ruelle...
spacedlaw, thank you for that. I simply got that second definition from the dictionary but it makes sense it's hardly used now. Also shows how old my French/English dictionary is!

I"m not quite home but I have high hopes of getting the flight to PIttsburgh at noon then a flight to BHM tonight. Keep your fingers crossed. This is such a classic French shot! I've learned a new French word as well.

Thanks for the French lesson - what a great word for that space (the one that gathers dust)....I've been cleaning the ruelle behind Ben's bed this afternoon of all the accumulated dust and chewing gum wrappers (grrrrrrr)
