Mandragore

A great place for a glass of wine before dinner is the Mandragore in Place aux Herbes. Relax and watch the world pass by in this lovely square shaded with plane trees. The owner is a well-known Menton artist, Yves Bosio, who recently had a major retrospective at the Palais de l'Europe called '50 Years of Creation.' Click on the link for more info.

Interesting photo you took, a perfect balance of shades, colors and interest. The poster for the exhibit really fits that space nicely as if it were meant to be there. Very fluid - like a "movable feast"

  3. What a surprising picture,J. The poster image is arresting and original, and I do like the way you have composed the whole scene in your camera and brought everything together.

  4. This restaurant looks so inviting, with its interesting mix of colors and textures. I, too, really like how you put the photos together. I'll be making a note of this place!

  5. The colors and textures just grabbed me! Ditto to the above. I know that the palate shades are lovely in Menton but you really bring it all together! Merci

When we lived in Menton, I believe there was a brocante dealer in the space now occupied by Mandragore, but he also sold wine from two huge vats, one white and one red. My husband was a regular customer, carrying his 3-liter jug to fill it with red wine for our table. The cost was 5.05 Euros! It was good wine too.

  7. Karen, absolutely right. It used to be a brocante shop that sold wine. In fact it still has the word 'antiquities' written outside.

  8. After reviewing this and recent other posts all I can think is that it must be pure pleasure to live in Menton in the summertime.

  10. It is pure pleasure to live in Menton any time of the year, thanks to the micro climate created by the mountains and the sea. It gets cold, but seldom bitterly cold, in the winter, and it rains some. It can get really hot in the summer, and there are often wildfires in the hills above, but most of the time it is just wonderful. I miss it everyday and am so grateful to Jilly for helping me keep in touch.

  11. Great colours - this photo would have suited today's theme day very well too. But I love your lady in pink.
