The Pleasure of Reading

Beach, book, gently breaking waves.

"Real luxury is time and opportunity to read for pleasure."

- Jane Brody

In some ways I prefer the composition of the smaller photograph but the bigger one tells the whole story. Which do you prefer?

  1. I wish I were here, ehh....

  2. I do prefer the bigger one. That way, people see there's enough place to join her, without disturbing her tranquility.

That's exactly what I would like to do at that present time.

Have a sunny and pleasant week-end, Jilly.

  3. The smaller one is more formally correct as image, but the bigger one has more "impact" with the coastline and the sky.

  4. I like the larger one. I love to read, but can't do so usually when I have something really scenic in front of me!!

  6. She is transported from her time and place into the author's time and place. That's why is remarkable about books.

  7. Beautiful place! Excellent photo! It would be great to sit there and read:)

  8. I like the smaller photo better because it's more focused. I think that "reading" would be a great theme topic.

  9. The bigger one.
The vastness and openess is it for me.

  10. I also prefer the larger photo. It gives us the depth of field that we imagine she's experiencing inside the fictional world of the book.

  11. I prefer the larger photo. As she looks out upon the horizon her thoughts return back to her book.

  12. With the larger photo you can see
    the vastness sky and sea...
and discover the reader hidden ...

    :-)

  13. No contest. It's the big one. That's quite a setting for a place to sit and read a novel.

  14. I like them both but you're right about the larger photo, it tells the story. Nice post.

  15. I liked the smaller one because in the large one, I could only see the back of her head and no book but I clicked on it to make it bigger and yes, the bigger one tells more of a story.
    Beautiful photos, both.

  17. Both are great shots, but I liked the smaller, it suggests more intimacy with the act of reading. Have a wonderful Sunday.

I agree with Carraol - I like both photos, but the smaller one is much more intimate and it gives you this feeling that it's just the girl, her book and the water, which is the kind of experience I want when losing myself in a good book.

The larger one, to me anyway, brings in the background "noise" and is a little more distracting to me. But both are great :)

  21. The smaller is like reading an interesting page of a good book. The large is the satisfaction of finishing the book and knowing the whole.
