Theme Day: Yellow

The first of the month and so once again it's Theme Day in the City Daily Photo community.

With the theme being 'yellow' the most obvious choice for Menton would be a lemon, after all, Menton is the citrus capital of France. So I give you a small photo of lemons but the main photo I couldn't resist - mimosa tumbling over the entrance to an old villa in a backstreet of Menton. Both photos were taken within a few metres and a few minutes of each other at the end of February.

Yellow is such a happy colour - the colour of sunshine. I hope it's shining for you today.

"There are painters who transform the sun to a yellow spot, but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun. "

Pablo Picasso 1881 - 1973

Over a hundred photographers will be posting their interpretation of today's Theme - you'll find so many different and imaginative responses to the word 'yellow.' Click here to view thumbnails for all participants

Happy theme day :)

What a perfect choice for a yellow theme. Does mimosa have a scent? It looks so robust. So full of life!

Proevence is yellow and blue to me. This is perfect for today. I sigh, I wish I was there.

Hi Jilly ... lemons are perfect for Menton and your mimosa photo is beautiful ... happy theme day.

Thankyou for your wish, but sadly it is windy and wet here today! Love that wattle aka mimosa. How about raising a glass of limoncello to my liver ;-)

Kate said...

This may be a repeat, repeat, repeat. The quote is most appropriate for the mimosa.

Ann said...

I thought that looked like wattle. Lovely shot.

Jilly said...

Brattcat, yes it does have a smell. It's lovely in the house - but doesn't seem to last long once it's cut - the tiny balls dry up and fall and make a mess.

Cushyco said...

Lovely photos. Is mimosa a type of wattle or something else? This has always puzzled me.

Jilly said...

Yes, when I lived in Australia I was confused too! Mimosa and wattle are the same thing and with so many different varieties too.

Neo said...

wow...
i love the lemon shot you have... is huge as compared to those that i have seen in my country...

and Yes!! Yellow is a sunshine color!!! woohooo

Jacob said...

These photos give off so much warmth, I find myself grinning looking at them!

Good natural shots of yellow. I always thought that Wattle was the common name for Acacia in Australia and that Mimosa was related to Acacia, but not actually the same thing.

How lovely.. I'm familiar with the red mimosa, but not the yellow. It's a beautiful photo and I love the lemons, too. My favorite citrus.

The image of the mimosa around the old column with the plaque is really beautiful. I like everything of it!
And bit of envy for the fresh lemons in february...

I have my own lemon tree in my garden. Well, many New Zealanders has own lemon trees at back yard, but I still see those are selling at super market. I'm wondering who is going to buy...

Nice shot!

Wow, Jilly, the mimosa shot is splendiferous! And the lemons make me smile. :) Really!

Julie said...

NOthing to add about the wattle/mimosa conundrum, except that I adore them both. A lovely post, Jilly.

Tamera said...

How very pretty and cheerful!

Jilly said...

J Bar, the Latin name for mimosa is 'acacia' as it is for wattle, so far as I can see.

Hi Jilly, that mimosa is absolutely FANTASTIC. Great photo for theme day!

Catherine said...

Wonderful find, Jilly. You didn't choose the easier way. I admit I prefer the first one, with its quaint charm. I like it a lot.

And the Picasso's quotation is absolutely fantastic to illustrate.

Oh, wow, what beautiful mimosa...and lemons. Virginia had some lemons too, and I told her they reminded me to make a lemon cake, which I will....

The Mimosa is beautiful. Villa La Renovee and the place below where a name or something has been chiseled off. Do you know what it used to say there?

Jilly said...

Abe, I doubt it said anything but probably was some sort of design.

Yellow is indeed a happy colour, and life in Menton must be just great at the moment if those pics are anything to go by!

Well, thanks for the wishes, Jilly, but our sunshine is a bit liquid at present :-). These two shots are both so very lovely and just screem Menton (I'm thinking of the festival and of your shots of the cold beach goers with mimosa at their side and of the lady carrying it home through the streets. When I would stock the art closet with construction paper at the beginning of the school year, I knew to always buy twice as much yellow as of the other colors as it was the color that was used up the fastest. I think we crave cheerfulness. You are so lucky to live in such an upbeat environment. Hope its a warm theme day for you!
