May in Menton - Moules...with Concentration

Steaming bowls of mussels, by the sea. Is there anything better? Look at the faces of those men, one on each table. Pure concentration. You'd better believe it - the French concentrate on their food. Me too!

  6. I just LOVE mussels. I eat them whenever I can when in France, or elsewhere where they're served like this.

  7. Look at the hands on the chap in the centre: aren't they interesting. Shame that other wine glass is there ... this is glorious Jilly.

  9. LOL Julie! I think he's just been scratching his ear.

Jilly, I think I can relate to the idea of mussels by the sea. How many more sleeps? I can't wait.

  11. Josordoni - I forget the name of the restaurant but it's the first one by the sea - and sort of opposite the market. Cross over from the market - direction Roquebrune and there it is on the corner. The restaurant itself is one side of the road and the tables in this photo the other. There is often a very old car outside this restaurant. Sorry can't remember the name.

I've eaten here and it was fine but I never ate mussels here so I don't know.

Nathalie, not long now! And Fabrizio, am so sorry you aren't able to come - but mussels will be waiting for you next time. Can't promise the lady in the black bikini tho!

Fascination it is. They must be looking for something. Maybe some kind of pearl?

  15. The restaurant's name is L'Exocet, on the corner of rue Trenca and the seafront. The name makes one think of the famous French missile but in fact it means 'flying fish'.

  17. They do look very deep in thought. Don't get between a man and his mussels.
