Theme Day: Night

Copyright 2009 Menton Daily Photo. All rights reserved.

It's the first of the month and as always it's Theme Day in the City Daily Photo community. Today's theme is Night and I give you a winter shot of the Café Alba at the Place du Cap in Menton.

And in the smaller photo, how about a Lady of the Night...or is she?

  3. Your top photo is worth framing! Beautiful. The bottom photo makes me think 'ouch'. Those shoes would be killing me.

  4. Wonderful photo, a very good choice for a sepia image.
Ironically, as you probably know, L'alba is the Italian for The dawn...

  5. Vogon Poet, I didn't know that! Yes it is ironic.

  9. People still out and about there? I guess there is no mosquitoes at night like there are around here. I got bit twice through my overalls last evening. I like the photo. Seems like your city is a busy one everywhere. Those shoes are crazy.

It is a cool, 63 degrees here at 6:00 AM in Ohio on this August 1st, 2009. Not bad. I slept under a blanket last night. We set the coldest July ever recorded last month. I hope you get some relief this month.

  12. I just showed Gary this and said how about winter in Menton. His reply yes sat at that table. Love the sepia was the owner in the doorway. As for her shoes. I'm not so sure about the shoes, almost like.

  14. Jilly,

I enjoyed the Monte Carlo pix but really love these. I agree with the others about the sepia...

The winter shot gave me a slight bit of relief from the heat here in W, DC. Now, out to the farmer's market to sweat, uh perspire.

  15. Now, now, you can't judge a girl by her shoes! Otherwise, I'd be in big trouble, I love heels! LOL!

  16. Jilly, for someone whose favourite theme this was not, this is superb!

  19. Jilly,
Thank you for your comment about my solar eclipse photo, and for your other recent comments. I apologize for not being able to respond sooner, but Julie and I were out on a ship for two full weeks (leaving from Tahiit) to cruise in the path of the total solar eclipse, and internet access was limited (and expensive).

I love both of your photos for the "night" theme. Your second photo reminds me of a time last winter that I think I have mentioned to you before. Julie, Sharon and I were at a "Jazz on the Rocks" concert at the PHoenix Desert Botanical Garden and we saw a woman in a short, tight skirt and high red shoes. We commented about what a great daily photo shot her shoes would be, but we were not able to capture a photo of her. We said, "Jilly would have gotten that shot."

  20. Best post I've seen today! Love the tones in the main photo and the feeling it creates. And the lady of the night...nice ankles!

  21. Hi Jilly, love your photos .. especially the possible lady of the night .. reminds me of our time in Brussels where there were indeed ladies of the night on some street corners .. we found the term "ladies of the night" to be kinder than others which might be used .. also fits the theme.

  22. Lovely street scene ... obviously night, yet the name of the restaurant means "morning", am I right?

  23. It's not a French word but Italian which is no surprise in Menton. It means dawn or sunrise, Chuck.

  24. I love the cafe scene, Jilly, and the lovely tone to it. Makes me feel like I could walk right into the photo.
I don't think those lovely gams belong to a real LotN. Far too chic and expensive shoes, stockings and skirt, me thinks. . . Looks sort of like a young Catherine Deneuve in costume on set. Very fun!

  25. Lovely photo...and as for the shot of the shoes...I don't know about lady of the night, but she is setting her feet up for trouble in her old age.

  26. I had considered doing a "women of the night" post, but valued my well-being too much. I like your feature image, Jilly. Like my puddle it shows just how much light is available to our cameras. I read in one of your comments that you are not good at night photography. Phooey!

The ambience you have created here is a perfect example of the general feel of this blog. It makes your town so very accessible ...

  27. I love the color of this photo -- very very nice.

  28. Unaware of them being photographed. The color you put on this shot really sets the mood. Nicely done.
