Sainte Agnès - 2

Not a pretty picture, but the promised Fort which is part of the Maginot Line. The Maginot Fort in Sainte Agnès was built in 1932. Solidly built, the fort sits on the edge of the village overlooking the sea, serving today as a popular tourist attraction. I found THIS LINK on the Internet which describes a visit by a group interested in all the forts of the Maginot line.

Tomorrow we'll have far prettier photos of the village.

  1. I just came from a blog where people are building a new home on top of a German WWII bunker. That was interesting. This is too and the photos of it are nice.

Just added more photos from 1954 to my Japanese blog.

  2. It looks very formidable. It also looks like it might blend in with the mountain ... I sometimes forgo a post because the scene is not visually appealing. However, if the subject is interesting, as it is when discussing "forts of the Maginot line", I think the post should be made.

  5. It blends in very well with the rocks behind it. That is true what Denton says...life is not always "visually appealing", so thanks for showing us the fort.

  6. As you say, not a pretty picture but powerful, enigmatic, and full of menace. For me, another indication of the many different and interesting things to see in Menton and around.
