Chess in the Jardin Biovès

A chess board and pieces, with the Jardins Biovès and hills as a backdrop. The 8th Open International Chess Tournament is taking place at the Palais de l'Europe (the building on the right with the flags) at the moment.

In the smaller photo, you see the poster, with one of Menton's beautiful steeples depicted as a chess piece, set against the facade of the Old Town.

Amazing perspective, beautiful sky. Autumn seems so faraway there...

I like the angle, too! The poster is a good one as well.

I echo the others. I loved not knowing whether these were very large playing pieces or your camera was just behind the chessboard.

Yes, it's a normal size chess set and I simply bent down and photographed them, fairly close up with the mountains and gardens in the background.

Great POV Jilly. I too wondered if they were those giant chess pieces. Lovely capture for sure.

Knight to bishop 3? I wonder who cleans the pawns.

Interesting shot. I could almost believe you used trick photography to make it look like giant chess pieces. How big are the pieces?

Nice shot! The perspectives work well to give me the impression that the chessmen are in fact huge! But of course they are normal size, right?

Clueless and Richard, yes normal size pieces. I just bent down and got the shot. Glad you like it! Serendipity...!
