Ventimiglia Market - the Cephalopods

Copyright 2009 Menton Daily Photo. All rights reserved

We're in the Fish section of Ventimiglia's main covered market (fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, flowers) which is in the centre of the town - not far, though, from the famous Friday market.

We're in the fish section. Squid (calamari), octopus (polpi) and cuttlefish (seppie). Hard to imagine Italian cooking without them.

Do you like octopus , squid and cuttlefish?

  5. That's the "true" market, Jilly. This picture is unbelievable....so many species offered...
Seen in a crate, it isn't appetizing but on a plate at the Balico, all is changed ! I don't know how to cook that kind of food, and I know it's very difficult to find the good cooking, so I never, never bougt these....But I love them fried with a tempura paste and some lemon on them, A l'Italienne. (not easy to "speak" about receipes in a foreigner language.

  8. I loved the markets here. So cheap. I'll pass on the food though, but the other half is salivating.
