A river runs through it

We're still in Sospel but in a few days, we'll go back down to Menton. We'll be back though as I've much to show you of this mountain village. Here is a view taken from the bridge I posted here. Would you think it heaven to live in one of these houses or apartments with the river below? Or would you rather live with a view of the Mediterranean?

If you had the choice, would you live in a city, by the sea, in the mountains or perhaps by a lake or river? What's your all-time favourite dream of where to live? Perhaps you are lucky enough to live your dream already?

Your photograph is nice. I like the tranquility of the place. It is also reminiscent of the Far East and crowded balconies with laundry hanging out to dry, speared as it is, on bamboo fishing poles. The sounds and smells and sights are not pleasant.

So I would assume something of that would linger here.

If I could, I would like to live higher up on a hill where I could see the valley below and any activity there.

I would never live in a large city as we did that once in Baltimore, Maryland. It is the worst experience of my life. It was like being in a zoo cage without bars.

  2. Scenic shot. Have a hard time believing that flooding doesn't threaten them every few years.

We stayed in a hotel with a scene like this in Gatlinburg, TN, many years ago. Very warm feelings from that time.

  3. I agree with Steve...reminds me of Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge, TN. Bet the water is nice and cool.

  4. Going by the view you showed us from your place, that would be my perfect place to live! Small town, but close to a major city.

What would be your choice, Jilly?

  5. This looks almost identical to how I remember Rennes-les-Bains in Cathar country!

  6. Give me the Med any day! My grandfather lived on one of the Greek islands & the Aegean was right there outside his front door. It's hard to beat that kind of scenery!

  7. If there is no mountain then it looks like somewhere in one of my journey in Asia but your photo shows the people who lives around this river is very friendly to the nature and not like what I've seen during my past journey,It's sad as i love the nature and I prefer to live not in too big city which is not far from the sea and beach and the people are civilizated

I love Cologne but sometimes i miss the beach and thank to technology its exist Aeroplane :o)

  8. Give me the sea any day. Having grown up in Montego Bay Jamaica I have dreamt of living in a big city like New York. But when it all comes down to it, I love living on an island. Anywhere you go you're never far from the beautiful Caribbean Sea :)

  10. The setting is very lovely; I could live there! Actually my preference is living near water, the larger area of water, the better.

  11. Like many other commenters, I prefer living near the ocean!

  12. My choice of where to live is where I can see mountains and the ocean. I love water. It is very healing for me.

  13. I'm a city boy all the way. I like the subway, the 24-hour supermarkets, the ethnic restaurants, and the busy street.

I don't think I would like living in the mountains or far from civilization. Basically, if I cannot get milk from the corner grocery store, I'm too far away. :-)

But I won't mind a week's vacation in the mountains or by the sea.

  14. I lived by the ocean and although it was nice the rust is too much! Mountains would be nice to see every day too!
